Kitchen Appliances That Save You Hundreds of Dollars

Kitchen Appliances That Save You Hundreds of Dollars

This one kitchen appliance has saved me hundreds of dollars

It makes complete sense to want to jump at the opportunity to save some cash over the purchase of your home appliances. Several home appliances will save you a ton of money due to their versatility;. At the same time, some manufacturers have envisaged the need for their appliances to serve many functions in the home, enabling them with the features to achieve this. Other manufacturers just simply focus solely on a particular function for their product. However, this does not imply that some appliances built for a single function cannot be improvised to serve other various functions. In the case of the former, an instance of an appliance built for many functions is a vacuum cleaner- a vacuum cleaner can be used to suck Air Conditioner dirt and the grime on your upholstery. It can basically clean almost any surface. On the other hand, appliances are built to cater to a specific need but can be improvised to serve other needs.

Saving money in the kitchen does not have to be a difficult task. You can try the hack of going for appliances that can serve many functions all in one- by doing so. You will have saved the money you would expend on other appliances. You can also try shopping online instead of at the grocery, which saves you a ton. Most importantly, you should always take necessary precautions such as disconnecting your appliances from the power source when they are not being used; not only will this prevent home hazards, but it will also save a ton of money; the other aspect of this last hack is the need to go for energy-efficient appliances. Energy-efficient home appliances save us some money because you get to spend less to run them, and more importantly, when you use them, you get to be a part of a bigger cause by contributing, though little but useful effort, to slowing down the pace at which the climate is changing.

Is Your Appliance Energy-Efficient?

Our homes are filled with appliances because they simply make our lives easier to live. Some of these appliances are not a necessity; we can, in fact, do without some of them, but why would we use them anyway? we use them because they help us get things done more efficiently. For example, I can always wash my clothes by scrubbing them against my palms, just like I can manually wash my dishes. Still, considering how effective washing machines and dishwashers are, I will always pick them over a manual form of washing. More importantly, it is understandable how expensive time is. If this factor is to be considered, one will realize that it is significantly cheaper to use these home appliances.

Speaking of cheap appliances, can we save money from using our appliances- if yes, how much can we possibly save? The short answer is sometimes. It really depends on the appliance, its age, how often you use it, and — more importantly — how you use it. Many newer appliances come with energy- and money-saving features, but you must know how to use them to reap the monetary benefits. Hence, talking about appliances in general and how much they typically cost to operate, when you plan you buy a new appliance, think of it as having two price tags– the actual purchase price and the price of operation. You might find a washing machine at a rock bottom price, then bring it home and realize it’s an energy hog that increases your power bill. Alternatively, you may purchase a relatively expensive machine that’s more energy-efficient than your old one — and your power bill will drop. See what we mean?

About Energy-Efficiency

Every home appliance has a label indicating its energy consumption and efficiency. The easiest way to measure the efficiency of a particular appliance is to check its yellow and black EnergyGuide label.  You will this label on most appliances because manufacturers are obligated by the Federal Trade Commission law to display their product’s estimated annual energy consumption,  the model’s capacity, and the efficiency ratings of comparable appliances.

In the United States, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rolled out an Energy Star program in 1992 to help consumers save money ad protect the environment. Hence, you will even find an ENERGY STAR rating on everything from a computer monitor to an entire commercial building.

A Dryer’s Efficiency

Give or take, a dryer uses relatively the same amount of energy and, therefore, the same amount of money as a washing machine. Note that clothes dryers aren’t listed in the ENERGY STAR database. This is because clothes dryers all work the same way, and their energy usage doesn’t vary much between models. However, you can choose between a gas dryer and an electric dryer. Typically, a gas dryer costs more initially but will cost less to operate over time. When you’re in the market to purchase a dryer, pick one with a moisture sensor in the drum — the dryer will automatically shut off when clothes are dry, saving energy. Also, select one with a “cool down” period — the last few minutes of the cycle will use cool air instead of heat to finish drying your garments. Make sure you clean the lint filter regularly to keep the machine efficient. Of course, if you really want to save money on drying clothes, why not just invest in a clothesline?

A Dishwasher’s Efficiency

A regular dishwasher consumes about 600 kWh per year, costing around $50 per year. This stat is contrary to people’s belief that dishwashers are unnecessary energy-hoaders. As pointed out earlier, some even ask why it is necessary to use a dishwasher at all when the washing can be done by hand, but the truth is that a dishwasher uses 37 percent less water than that used when you wash in the sink. And, of course, your dishwasher will run effectively even when it’s fully loaded- in fact. It is most efficient when it is fully loaded. Now you see that your dishwasher is more efficient and can save you money. You can save more money by turning off the “heat dry” option and using “air dry” instead. Use energy-saving cycles like “short wash” to save more water and energy. And, if possible, try not to install your dishwasher near your fridge. The dishwasher’s heat and moisture will make your fridge work harder to stay cool.

There are some kitchen appliances you just cannot do without. On the flip side, there are some we barely get used to. I have always pondered –If gadgets could speak, some would have asked me by now why I use them so much when others lie around idle. It is clear that we often find more use for some tools than others. Examples of appliances we use daily include; a coffee maker and a toaster. Meanwhile;
